Founded in 2023, the Hyderabad-based startup is tackling modern intimacy and health challenges with plant-based, side-effect-free chocolates.

Deccan News Service :

In an age where work stress, hectic lifestyles, and poor dietary habits are eroding emotional and physical intimacy among couples, kalories™ Nutra Solutions, a Hyderabad-based startup, is offering a sweet solution—literally.

Founded in 2023 by entrepreneurs Dr. Rakesh Gandla (CEO) and Ravikanth Palapati (COO), kalories Nutra Solutions has developed a unique line of plant-based, side-effect-free chocolates designed to rekindle romance and boost emotional well-being in relationships. Their flagship product? An intimacy-enhancing chocolate, designed after extensive R&D to address stress-induced relationship fatigue among couples.

The Motivation: Love in the Time of Stress

“The idea came after observing how modern working couples struggle to maintain intimacy post-COVID,” says Gandla. “Long work hours, business travel, lifestyle disorders, and shifting food habits are all affecting emotional bonding. We wanted to create a healthy, non-invasive solution that helps couples reconnect—naturally.”

Instead of chemical-laden pills or supplements, kalories Nutra’s innovation lies in delivering functional wellness through indulgence—a chocolate that works for both men and women, containing plant-based aphrodisiac extracts. Unlike traditional capsules found in pharmacies, this product is free from chemical additives and sugar, using jaggery as a sweetener to cater even to diabetic users.

From Lab to Love: The R&D Journey

kalories Nutra’s path to product launch was anything but conventional. After initial trials failed to trigger the desired hormonal responses, the startup returned to the drawing board. “We improved the formulation, adjusted the taste profile, and replaced sugar with jaggery,” shares Palapati. The result? A version of the product that passed real-world testing with over 75+ couples, delivering both efficacy and taste.

“Feedback was critical. Users told us what worked, what didn’t. We adapted accordingly,” adds Gandla.

Growing Demand, Hybrid Distribution

Launched just year ago, the product is seeing encouraging adoption across online and offline channels. It is sold via the company’s direct-to-consumer websiteAmazonlocal pharma stores in Hyderabad, and soon, in retail outlets across India. A super stockist/distributors in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has already been onboarded for pan-India distribution starting September 2024.

Powered by Research, Not Sugar

Manufacturing is handled through a contract partner in Hyderabad, with all chocolates produced using single origin cocoa, plant extracts (adaptogens), and no preservatives, no emulsifiers or any artificial flavours. The shelf life stands at 12 months, even at room temperature—an impressive feat in the Indian market. The team has also filed patents for the product compositionindustrial design, and trademark protection, ensuring that their formula and branding remain exclusive.

Beyond Romance: Venturing into Sports & Wellness

kalories Nutra isn’t stopping at intimacy. Its second product, “Super Kalories,” formerly know as “Spark” a sports nutrition chocolate, targets fitness-conscious consumers. The company is also preparing to launch two new chocolates fortified with vitamin C and D, addressing common deficiencies in Indian diets. These will be suitable for all age groups, making nutrition more accessible—and delicious.

Funded by Confidence

The company raised ₹40 lakh from an angel investor ahead of its launch, backed by strong R&D documentation and a working product. “Our investor came on board based on our conviction and groundwork,” Gandla notes. All orders are processed with 100% advance payments, minimizing working capital risks—a rare strategy for startups.

The Road Ahead

With a lean team of four, kalories Nutra is tapping into a largely unexplored market: emotional wellness and nutrition through food science. “We are not trying to be just a chocolate company,” says Palapati. “We are building a brand that redefines functional foods for couples, athletes, and everyday individuals.”

In an era where stress is a silent relationship killer, kalories Nutra's chocolate might just be the new love language.
