World Urdu Day Celebrated: BJP's Mir Firasath Ali Baqri Advocates for Preservation of Urdu Language
Hyderabad – On the occasion of World Urdu Day, celebrated globally on November 9th, the birth anniversary of the renowned Urdu poet Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, Bharatiya Janata Party's former State Spokesperson for Telangana, Mir Firasath Ali Baqri, emphasized the significance of preserving the Urdu language and its cultural heritage.
Mir Firasath Ali Baqri noted that Urdu is not only a language of love but also one that fosters connection and unity among people across the world. He remarked, “There is no country in the world where Urdu is not spoken. It is a language that bridges gaps between communities and binds them together in shared understanding.”
However, Baqri expressed concern over the gradual decline in the usage of Urdu, highlighting the diminishing role it plays in daily life. “The sad reality is that while we often talk about the survival of Urdu, people have stopped reading Urdu newspapers, and even in their homes, they no longer speak the language. It is time we rethink this and make a conscious effort to revive Urdu in our daily lives,” he said. Baqri encouraged people to introduce Urdu words into their homes, stressing that language plays a vital role in connecting generations.
He also suggested the installation of Urdu newspapers and the purchase of Urdu books as practical steps to promote the language. “One of the reasons why the new generation is becoming disconnected from Urdu is the fact that religious books and rituals are also being conducted in other languages. On this World Urdu Day, I urge everyone to pledge to use Urdu words at home and encourage the younger generation to engage with the language,” Baqri added.
Furthermore, he appealed to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan to present a bill in the upcoming Parliament session to make Urdu the second official language in India. The session is set to begin on November 25th, 2024. Baqri concluded his statement by stressing the importance of governmental support in preserving and promoting the Urdu language for future generations.
