TPCC President and Malkajgiri Member of Parliament, Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Congress workers, undertook a tour of the rain-hit colonies in LB Nagar constituency to assess the widespread damage caused by heavy rains on Saturday. Expressing deep concern over the devastating floods and its impact on lives and livelihoods, Revanth Reddy made scathing remarks on the state government's negligence in handling the crisis.
Addressing the media during his visit, TPCC President Revanth Reddy criticized the authorities for failing to take timely action, resulting in the loss of numerous lives and widespread devastation. He highlighted the staggering scale of crop damage, estimating around 10 lakh acres affected across the state due to the floods. Revanth Reddy expressed dismay over the recurring floods in the region for the past nine years and lambasted the government for its apparent apathy towards the plight of the people. He attributed the inundation of colonies to the greed of those in power, accusing that a significant number of Nizam-era seats were under the control of BRS leaders.
Revanth Reddy also raised concerns about encroachments on ponds, which exacerbated the flooding in the colonies. He took a dig at Minister KTR's purported concern for Hyderabad city, stating that the situation had turned into a disaster under the government's watch. He further criticized the government for ignoring early warnings from the weather department and failing to review the flood situation proactively. He pointed out that Pragati Bhavan, the official residence of the Chief Minister, had become a platform for petty politics while people suffered. Demanding immediate action in flood-affected areas, Revanth Reddy proposed a temporary compensation of Rs. 15,000 for those who lost their belongings in the floods. He called for inspections and financial assistance for houses in low-lying areas. Additionally, he urged the government to provide Rs. 25 lakhs to families who lost their loved ones due to the floods and Rs. 20,000 for agricultural lands affected by sand dunes.
In a stern statement, Revanth Reddy accused the state government of being inert and called for the release of Rs. 1000 crores as immediate flood relief from the central government. He also decried the alleged collusion politics between BJP and BRS.
