Iran-US Talks End Without Deal

Talks between Iran and the United States in Islamabad concluded without any agreement after nearly 21 hours of intensive negotiations, with both sides failing to arrive at a common framework.
According to reports, the discussions ended due to what the Iranian side described as “excessive demands” put forward by the US delegation. The high-stakes diplomatic engagement was closely watched, given the ongoing tensions and its potential impact on regional stability.
The Iranian delegation was led by senior officials including Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Seyed Abbas Araqchi, and Ali Baqeri, along with expert committees representing various strategic sectors. Throughout the marathon negotiations, the Iranian team maintained a firm stance on safeguarding what it described as the fundamental rights of the nation, particularly in political, military, and peaceful nuclear domains.
Sources indicated that key points of contention included issues related to the Strait of Hormuz and demands concerning Iran’s nuclear program. The US side reportedly pushed for conditions that Iran viewed as overreaching, including proposals that were perceived as attempts to achieve objectives that could not be secured through previous military confrontations.
Iranian negotiators emphasized their willingness to engage constructively and presented several proposals aimed at building a common framework. However, they maintained that any agreement must respect Iran’s sovereignty and its rights under international law, particularly in relation to peaceful nuclear technology.
Despite multiple rounds of discussions and consultations, the gap between the two sides remained significant. Iranian officials stated that the US position lacked flexibility and realism, ultimately preventing progress toward a mutually acceptable outcome.
The outcome of the talks underscores the continuing challenges in diplomatic engagement between the two countries, with longstanding differences remaining unresolved. Observers note that the failure to reach an agreement could have broader implications for regional security and future negotiations.
While no immediate plans for further talks were announced, both sides are expected to reassess their positions amid ongoing geopolitical tensions. The developments in Islamabad highlight the complexities involved in bridging differences on critical strategic and security issues between the two nations.
