In an award ceremony that was held today on the occasion of the Institute's Foundation Day at ICMR-National Institute of Nutrition, Dr Hemalatha R, Director presented the Second Tulpule Awards in the senior and junior categories to Dr N Arlappa, Scientist F, Division of Public Health Nutrition and Dr. M.Mahesh Kumar,Scientist C, Division of Clinical Epidemiology, respectively for their contributions to nutritional and health sciences.

The Awards were Instituted by the Indian Council of Medical Research with the generous donation from the Tulpule family in honour of Dr PG Tulpule, former Director of NIN (1980-83) and his late wife Mrs. Malati Tulpule to encourage mid and senior level scientists as well as young researchers, scholars, fellows.The awardees received a silver plaque each and a citation along with a cash prize.

Dr. Arlappa, the recipient of the senior category award delivered the PG Tulpule oration on the 'The Burden of Hidden Hunger in India - Perspectives from National Surveys'.
