Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag – GGBS (IS 16714) for Strong, Durable, Sustainable & Green Concrete Construction
On April 4, 2023 a guest lecture was held on “Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag – GGBS (IS 16714) for Strong, Durable, Sustainable & Green Concrete Construction." The lecture was delivered by Mr. Shanmukha A.S. Reddy Sir who is an Asst. General Manager in JSW Cement Limited with over twenty years of experience in the quality control department, construction material testing, preparation of concrete mix designs, handling the batching plants, and conducting audits. The lecture was attended by students, and faculty members of Civil Engineering Department of CBIT.
Mr. Shanmukha started the lecture by providing an overview of the need for materials for Strong, Durable, Sustainable, and Green Concrete Construction. He highlighted the importance of GGBS admixture in concrete. He also discussed how it improves the strength and durability of concrete, reduces the risk of cracking, lowers the carbon footprint of concrete production, increases the workability of concrete by reducing the amount of water needed in the mix, and leads to a denser and more durable concrete. He shared his experiences in life as a civil engineer. The lecture also covered the challenges and opportunities of GGBS in concrete.

Mr. Shanmukha emphasized the importance of keeping up with the latest marketing trends and technologies and adapting to changing consumer behavior and preferences. The lecture concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their doubts. The audience was highly engaged, and Mr.Shanmukha provided insightful responses to all the questions.
